From the Natural Products Expo to Kelsick Market

Even after 20 years in the grocery retail business, we still genuinely get excited discovering new, delicious food and unique kitchen items to carry at Kelsick Specialty Market.

Earlier this month, we (Beth and Megan, here) spent three days in Baltimore at the annual Natural Products Expo sampling tasty treats, watching demos and listening to keynote speakers like Joel Salatin, who shared his holistic approach to farming and the benefits of direct to consumer marketing.

The theme of the entire event: learn what’s new and exciting in the world of natural food and food related products.

So what exactly can you expect on the Kelsick Market shelves this fall thanks to this amazing trip?

More and more companies are incorporating unusual grains like quinoa, millet and bulgur into the mainstream as alternatives to rice and pasta. Look to Kelsick for more options here. We encourage you to try some of these unusual grains and spice up your cooking.

Speaking of spices, Charissa’s Moroccan spice rubs can’t come in soon enough. Charissa won the prestigious SOFI award from the Specialty Food Association at this year’s Summer Fancy Food Show and won us over…so we’re bringing the spices home to Main Street.

The pea is getting a lot of attention, including from us. It’s being dried and sold as a snack and used as a starch as pea flour. Once it arrives, ask us for some tips on how to incorporate the starch flour in your cooking.

Cucina & Amore. This new line of Italian products offers heat-and-go quinoa dishes, savory vegetable sauces and sweet biscotti.

Urban Moonshine. Need we say more? These folks make dressings and marinades a thing of beauty.

Who says only San Franciscan’s can enjoy sourdough bread? We fell in love with a starter kit from Cultures for Health and are sure you will, too.

Need to keep things hot…and cold? Hydroflask thermos help keep things hot for 6 hours and cold for 24! We’ll have the growler size so you can keep 64 ounces of your beverage of choice at the perfect temperature.

And now…the best for last. By far, the product that stole the show was Bee’s Wrap. This natural alternative to plastic wrap made with beeswax, GOTS certified cotton, organic jojoba oil and tree resin was our top pick of the show. If cared for properly you can reuse it for up to a year.
