Helping victims of domestic violence by providing emergency shelter, crisis intervention, advocacy programs and so much more. That’s what the Laurel Shelter in our great community is committed to and it’s why we are delighted to support them this month with our Kelsick KICK BACK Program (our give back program each month in honor of our 25th Anniversary this year)!
For 25 years and counting, the community has helped support Kelsick Specialty Market and made us your number one go-to for gourmet foods, wine and craft beer. This August we are returning the favor by sharing a portion of our profit to the Laurel Shelter. The Laurel Shelter also has an information table set up in the market for you to learn more about their mission, make an additional donation or plan to come to some of their events. A bake sale and yard sale is planned for this month at the market. Stay tuned to Facebook for details.
ABOUT THE LAUREL SHELTER
The mission of Laurel Shelter is to empower victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by providing victim services and to prevent violence by increasing awareness of the impact these victimizations have on all members of the community.
In 1997, Laurel Shelter opened to provide shelter and support services for domestic violence victims. In 1999 services to victims of sexual assault and/or abuse were added and Laurel Shelter opened a Sexual Assault crisis center in the Edgehill Town Center. Thanks to generous donations, Laurel Shelter was able to open a Thrift Store in 2003.
They are dedicated to assisting victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. We are also committed to reducing incidents of domestic violence and sexual assault in our communities. To achieve our goals, Laurel Shelter offers shelter, advocacy, education and support to survivors, legal support, and community education to foster awareness and identification of victims.
WHAT IS THE KICK BACK PROGRAM?
Each month, through the fall of 2017, we have selected organizations in our community to support through our sales. In April we teamed up with The Samaritan Group, Inc. In May we partnered with the Gloucester-Mathews Human Society, in June we worked with the Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic and in July we supported the Gloucester Library.
